Rebel Howl

Marla Warner

Artist & Photographer

Q: Who?

A: My name is Marla. I am a mixed media artist and a photographer specializing in portraits based in Toronto. I am the owner and creator of Rebel Howl Studios. Welcome.

Q: What?

A:  I am a mixed media artist, creating a wide range of pieces under various titled collections. All items are for sale in the Rebel Howl Shop. I also, photograph people. My style is a natural, cinematic and somewhat editorial style. It is my belief that the camera is kinder than we give it credit.

Q: Where?

A: I am based in Toronto, however I have travelled all over the world taking photographs on various projects.

Q: When?

A: I have been shooting all my life but I transitioned from hobbyist to professional in 2008. At that time, I decided to attend school for photography. I graduated from Humber College, in 2010, with a diploma in Creative Photography. Since graduating, I have been working freelance on various projects. Eventually, launching my own brand, Rebel Howl Studios, in the fall of 2016. And hosted my first art pop up show in February 2018 in Toronto.

Q: Why?

A: I love the stillness of photography. The quiet reflection that gazing at photographs allows. Or perhaps "encourages" is a better word to use. I have always had a sweet tooth for nostalgia and collectables. My art practice and my photography allow me to indulge in that vice.

Q: How?

A: "How?" like "How can people buy my work ??" They should click the “shop” button on the top or bottom of any page on this website. That was a little plug for my business. But I don't think that was the "How" that was intended.

In regards to my shop, I create various mixed media pieces housed under various “collections” that are available for purchase under the “Shop” tab. My goal is to create cool, interesting, emotive art pieces and products that people want to show off. The art pieces and products I create are for people who are collectors and want something exclusive, limited, edgy and cool.

In regards to my portrait business, my work flow with a client is to capture them as they are. As natural as possible. Being themselves. People are so beautiful when they are being themselves.  I am very good at making anyone in front of my lens feel comfortable. It truly is my gift.
